On a mountain path as dusk approaches, two men stand close together, gazing at the quietly shining crescent moon.
A mysterious and slightly eerie nocturnal forest scene, surrounded by dense evergreen trees and a withered oak with exposed roots, seemingly on the verge of collapse. Yet, this painting actually encapsulates the painter Caspar David Friedrich's deep and poignant 'remembrance of a friend'.
