Against the backdrop of Étretat's iconic Amont Cliff, a cluster of old fishing boats pulled up onto the beach.
The subdued tones of the pebble beach and the vibrant colors of the boat hulls create a striking contrast in this captivating scene.
In fact, this painting was not created from the safety of a hotel window, as some of his later works were. Monet actually set up his easel directly on the wild beach during his first major painting trip to Étretat, capturing the scene firsthand.
