A vast sky, filled with bright clouds, occupies two-thirds of the canvas. At the end of a sandy country road stands a solitary farmhouse, and in the distance, a small church is faintly visible.
Earthy tones of olive green and ochre blend together, with a small wooden bridge in the foreground, a tall pine tree, and a body of water depicted, creating a typical Polish rural landscape.
This is, in fact, an early work by Józef Chełmoński, the painter who would later be called the 'Polish Barbizon School', painted when he was still a 22-year-old art student.
